Chapter One
Some dreams fade away. Some are only waiting to be woken again.
My dream of a Porsche 911 began when I was 15.
Back then one thing was clear to me: if there was ever to be a sports car, it had to be a Porsche. Even then the 911 fascinated me – its shape, its history and that very particular feeling which sets it apart from other cars.
Life, however, had other plans. Career, family and other priorities gradually pushed the dream into the background.
Until it awoke again in my forties.
This time I had a fairly concrete idea: it was to be a Targa from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. Ideally even from the year I was born.
I viewed a number of cars and looked into the subject more deeply. In doing so I came to a realisation that would ultimately shape my decision: I am not a hobby mechanic.
A classic 911 is fascinating – but a car like that also means responsibility, effort and running costs. For me the joy of driving had to come first, not the constant question of what would need repairing or restoring next.
Then in 2022 I had the opportunity to drive a Targa for an entire weekend.
And suddenly it was back – that fascination.
After that weekend I knew: the dream of a 911 was still there. But I also knew now that it would not be a classic Targa.
I began to look at the matter more soberly. A car that is perhaps driven only 5,000 to 7,000 kilometres a year, mainly in summer, also has to make economic sense for me. Servicing, maintenance, repairs and running costs are part of the reality of such a car.
And so, for the time being, the dream remained a dream.
If it is to be a 911, then it has to be a cabriolet.
Modern enough to enjoy reliably and without constant worry. Classic enough to still convey the feeling of a genuine 911. And open – because for me, driving with the roof down is part of a car like this.
Then came 2026
A special thank you
Thank you, Susi
That my long-held dream could become reality in 2026 I owe above all to my wife Susi. She not only understood my wish, but with her words also gave me the courage to actually live it:
“If we can afford it as a family and nobody has to suffer for it, then live your dream.”
Thank you, Susi, for your understanding, your trust and for making the realisation of this dream possible. Without you this special step would not have been possible for me.
The first spark
The dream of a 911 began at fifteen – and it never quite let go of me again.
The weekend
A Targa for an entire weekend – and suddenly the fascination was back.
A dream becomes reality
Modern, classic and open: the 911 I had waited for so long.
