The First Sunrise and Cabriolet Weather – A Perfect Day

Sometimes no special occasion is needed. Just a sunny morning, the promise of a warm late-summer day and the desire to simply set off.

That Sunday my wife and I started out from Söding at 10:30. No destination that had to be reached quickly. No motorway. No time pressure. Just a planned round trip through beautiful Styria, the roof down, the wind deflector up and the anticipation of every single kilometre.

The route took us via Fernitz, Laßnitzhöhe, Gleisdorf, St. Ruprecht an der Raab and finally through the Weizklamm gorge. A stretch that is surprisingly narrow in places, but which unfolds its very special appeal precisely for that reason. Bend after bend, you become part of the landscape there. The steering wheel in your hands, the sound of the engine in the background and the certainty of being in exactly the right place at exactly the right moment.

When we reached the Teichalm around midday, Styria showed itself at its very best. Brilliant sunshine, deep blue sky and the lake, calm and glittering in the middle of the alpine meadow. We parked right by the water, enjoyed the view and deliberately took our time. A small bite to eat at the Latschenhütte, a relaxed walk around the lake and, of course, an ice cream before the journey continued.

We spent almost two hours there without looking at the clock. Simply enjoying the moment.

Shortly before 14:00 we carried on via Breitenau am Hochlantsch, Frohnleiten, Gratkorn, St. Oswald bei Plankenwarth and Kalchberg, heading back home. The roads were made for a cabriolet, the temperatures were perfect, and every bend reminded me why this Porsche is far more to me than just a car.

After around 168 kilometres and a pure driving time of about 3 hours and 26 minutes, we arrived back in Söding at around 16:00. Relaxed, content and with the feeling of having experienced one of those rare days when everything simply falls into place.

And as always after a particularly beautiful drive, the final part of the ritual could not be missing: reaching for the cloth once more, cleaning the car and letting the day pass through my mind while doing so.

When I dreamed of a 911 at the age of fifteen, it was precisely moments like these that I had imagined. Not top speed. Not prestige. But open roads, open landscapes, the people you love, and that indescribable feeling of being on the move. This is exactly what this car was made for. And this is exactly why days like these mean so much.
